Knitting and other Crafty Goodness

Sew, Sew, Sew
Friday, May 3, 2013

So, I've been trying to teach myself how to sew figuring it would be less strain on my hands and wrists than knitting and crocheting.  I've been making headbands since they seemed simple enough and that's when I realized I couldn't cut or sew straight to save my life.  No biggie I thought I'll move on to quilting they use big rulers and rotary cutters so straight cuts are virtually guaranteed.  And then the universe laughed, because the only straight line I've been able to make was when I sliced my finger open with the rotary cutter.  I'm injured and in pain; I did, however, finish this little quilt thing for my nephew.

good first attempt, I think.

Finally, finished something.

Sure, I was supposed to finish my nephew's baby blanket seven months ago when he was born, but hey at least it's done before his first birthday; I'm still working on my older nephew's jacket that he was supposed to get Christmas of '06.  But enough about that, I can't believe I finished.  Long story short, I'm having these problems with my hands my fingers are getting numb and tingling which might be because a number of things.  This slight issue makes it almost impossible for me to hold anything for any extended period of time, more than a minute or two really, so this blanket was knit very very slowly.  A minute here, a couple there, ice the hands, more knitting there.

Just plain garter stitch. Knit, knit, knit, and then knit again.  I knit it kinda log cabin like, but keeping with the stripes. So, some stripes are horizontal and others vertical.  I finished it off with an applied i-cord border which is my go to for blankets.

Now, what kind of baby blanket post would this be without a baby??? Not a very good one.
